Longevity of HFDC? - Mike67 - 05-29-2017

Has anyone worn out a HFDC? I've had one for about a decade and it makes some squealing noises. Should I start looking for a replacement?
Thanks.

If it's the bearings, those are replaceable.  You can install better ones and they should last longer.  There are detailed instructions on changing motor bearings to be found various places, including vintagemachinery here: http://wiki.vintagemachinery.org/Baldor%20Motor%20Repair.ashx

Or use this as an opportunity to move more air with a bigger DC.

You might find a round disk on the side opposite the shaft end that's part of the start circuit, place a little dielectric grease on it. Otherwise, it's a bearing and you might get lucky by oiling them with a 10 or 20 weight oil.

Probably a bearing but make sure the blower wheel is snug on the shaft (there are a couple of set screws, one stacked on top of the other).

Thank you!
