Plumbing upgrade plans - Bryan11 - 08-20-2017

As part of plans to update a bathroom from the current 1970s fixtures and style, I'm working with a local plumber to make a few upgrades to the house plumbing.  Since many neighbors have been having copper pipe leaks due to years of high iron in the water for many years, part of that includes replacing all copper pipes with pex.  It's not that bad since all current plumbing is exposed in our utility room.

Updates planned so far:
- Put a drain tub under the old water heater with a hose to drain overflow to the sump drain
- Add a shut off valve after the water meter in addition to the original shut off valve per updated code requirements
- Add separate shut off valves in utility room for showers so they may be left off separately if we want to work on them.  Each since / toilet already has shut off valves.

If you had the chance, would you make any other changes?

put a shut off on the inlet and outlet side if the water heater and unions between the shutoffs and the tank.Makes changing the tank an easy job.

Are you going full home run with your PEX? If so, the manifolds come with shut off valves for all fixtures. If not, add a hot water recirculate line to the end of the hot water run in case you want to do recirculation.
