File case ideas. - Scott W - 06-24-2018

I have been using these plastic jobbies that keep breaking. I was wondering if anyone has made something for files. I need a mobile/portable case for some files with those hanging type folders.

Has anybody made one?  Solid or ply is cool.

Thanks

I haven't made any portable boxes like that but I don't think it would be terribly difficult to design something that would do the trick. I think they could be kind of fun to build. How many files would you need it to hold? In other words, how thick would the stack be?

About the same size as the one in the pic. I really am just curious about how they should hang...I have seen some that have some sort of wire attachment inside.

I had thought a out that but figured they wear out too soon. Maybe I'll try that.

Thanks

I did not build the box, but I made a box useful by using 1/2" angle iron as the hangers.

One of our customers produces exactly what you need, and for a price that precludes making them yourself:

Addendum:  They have 18 distribution points throughout the USA.  You don't have to deal with the Connecticut office.  Virginia and Florida seem like the closest.

Cooler.. I actually wanted to make one in part due to me wanting to try some carving on it.

OK.  For utility and ruggedness, the e-case is a home run.  But it looks like a utilitarian item and cannot be made to look pretty.

If it hasnt been suggested, just buy some flat metal bar stock from the Borg and install in shallow slots so they run front to back in your "box" much like one would do if you were building your own hanging file drawer.

Adding to my post.  The DIY box design is akin to the file drawer described here:

You just need to contain the metal bars (maybe NOT a through cut?) and add a lid:
