Homeowner electrical test?
#21
I tried to pull permits to run a propane line and some light electric. No dice without a master gas fitter and master electrician pulling the permits. I could have done the propane line, underground, 60 ft for about $400. I wound up paying a plumber $2700. I just did the electric without permits.

I came to a stop sign and a skanky tweaker chick in a tube top climbed out of the brush and propositioned me.  She looked like she didn't have any teeth so I counted that as a plus.

Yes it can be frustrating for owners without a liscence. I was in the Green Bay inspectors office one time picking up a permit. I was usually in there at least once a month, so I had all of the required paperwork. I held a GC liscese for a little over 40 years before I stopped doing the ongoing education and paying for the great honor of being able to take the test. When that went onlin the company that wrote the test and handled the testing and certifications made a killing. Only approved place and way to keep up to date in the whole stste. Anyway there was a woman in there trying to pick up a permit for vinyl siding on a 2 family They owned. The city had sent them a notice that it needed repainting, due to peeling paint. They decided they were going to reside instead. Doing thelabor themselves would save them a lot of money Not allowed in a rental. Your primary place of living would have been allowed. She was getting so beligerent and verbally abusive that someone in one of the offices must have called the police. They were only down 3 floors so it wasn't long before 3 officers walked in. They did actually escort her out of the building. Doubt if she was charged ith anything. But she was to the point og going postal. Doubt she had a gun along, but she was so mad she might have used it if she did

that borderlines unethical.  tell somebody work has to be done, but not allow them to do it.
Crazy

for siding.  siding!  not even structural!

I've said it before, but is great to live in freedom where we are!

I agree. They should have been allowed to do the siding

Can't imagine having to permit siding replacement.

Not sure, but in Green Bay you might need a permit to use the bathroom, and I had to use that kind of wording so I didn't get in trouble here.

I was helping my son reside his house and was almost done when an inspector showed up and said you need a permit.  We didn't know as it wasn't structural.  I started reading the permit book and you need a permit to paint the front door.

Where is this? I thought that would be an HOA thing.

I have a client who "underappreciates" the overbearing HOA. She found that they neglected to include language to regulate front door color so she periodically changes the color (usually something bright) just to chaff at the HOA folks a little.

A friend had a house moved for a relative. He's doing most of the work himself. Here you only need a licensed GC if the project is over 30k. However for some reason the county is making him get licensed plumber and electrician for the permit even though there's really not much to do since it was a house that was moved. I think they're annoyed that he's keeping the cost under 30k. Anyway, he found both and is still doing the work. They'll consult and the plumber will sign off on the pressure tests.
