where to get CBN wheels? - DCM - 01-19-2016 I'm about to get an 8" slow speed grinder & want to go w/CBN wheels. where to get? & which grit? thx David Re: where to get CBN wheels? - theeviltwinn - 01-19-2016 I got mine from D-Way http://d-waytools.com/cbn-grinding-wheels 80 and 180 Twinn Re: where to get CBN wheels? - DCM - 01-19-2016 thanks for the link Twinn which grit do you sharpen your bowl gouge with? & which for the 180 grit? Re: where to get CBN wheels? - theeviltwinn - 01-19-2016 I sharpen mostly with the 180 grit although I do prefer the 80 grit for scrapers. If only one, get the 180. They are both very aggressive when new but break in quickly. I got the 180 grit and kept the original 40 grit stone that came with the Grizzly grinder. Arlin Re: where to get CBN wheels? - robo hippy - 01-19-2016 The two main sources are D Way and Woodturningwonders. Dave at D Way was the first person that I know of to start selling them to woodturners. Ken Rizza came along after. Ken does have aluminum hubbed wheels, which are lighter than the steel ones that Dave has. I use the 80 grit mostly for my scrapers, and the 180 for everything else, though some times I use the 180 for scrapers as well. Not sure which one gives the best burr. Just about every one prefers the 1 1/2 inch wide wheels. I have never had my gouges wander off the edge of one of them. robo hippy Re: where to get CBN wheels? - Shop Dad - 01-19-2016 Robo has an excellent article on the subject worth reading. If no one posts a link I will when home.
