Well, if you made fewer mistakes, you wouldn't have this problem. Seriously, just buy a large eraser.

1. Split a 3/8" dowel lengthwise.
2. Rout a groove with a 1/16" round nose bit along the flat of each dowel.
3. Dissect each pencil stub, and carefully remove the graphite.
4. Glue each graphite end to end in the groove of one half of the dowel.
5. Glue the other half of the dowel back on the first.
6. And for a shortcut eraser, just get a pack of the eraser caps to go on the end.
If you don't want to buy the eraser caps, part two of this thread will be using 3/8" copper tubing to stack the remaining eraser pieces and crimping on the end of the new pencil!

A half lap joint and Wood workers' 3 should do it. You can also drill out the lead and us a piece of drill rod to reinforce the joint. But heat treat the drill rod first or it will bend too easily. Temper it too to spring temper or it will crack.
If you build satisfactory jigs you should be able to mass produce this joint. But don't try to splice a hex sided pencil with a round one. It will look silly.

2" length of copper tubing,half on each pencil.This is the accepted method according to OSHA.

why would anyone even try to figure it out. Toss em and buy new ones, they ain't that expensive. You are right, you are dumb and cheap.
