Need help with Vega tailstock - Wild Turkey - 02-15-2016 Rehabbing 80's model Vega 1553. Lots of wire brushing, sanding and painting and finally putting it all back together. But I didn't take enough pix when I started and can't figure out the tailstock screw system. It retracts the shaft just fine, but when I try to extend it the screw comes out of the back. Can't find any leftover parts so I'm not sure what the problem is. Any suggestions? Re: Need help with Vega tailstock - AnthonyYak - 02-15-2016 There should be a pin or set screw to hold it. How about a pic of the other side. Re: Need help with Vega tailstock - Steve K - 02-15-2016 AnthonyYak said: Yea, or maybe a Jesus pin or snap ring. Re: Need help with Vega tailstock - Wild Turkey - 02-15-2016 There is a set screw on the other side but no slot for it to engage. The screw is pointed but not long enough to reach the shaft. Re: Need help with Vega tailstock - Wild Turkey - 02-15-2016 (smacking self on forehead) Does that ring go inside? the handle would hold it one direction, the ring the other. Think I'll go check Re: Need help with Vega tailstock - Wild Turkey - 02-15-2016 Now that we've solved that problem, what is the purpose of the pointed setscrew?? Does it just help hold the bearing in place Re: Need help with Vega tailstock - theeviltwinn - 02-15-2016 The set screw stops the shaft from coming out the back. I'm betting the ring is threaded on the inside. |
