i don't see any issue with this. i'd just recommend not having direct contact with the concrete floor.

Which reminds me----if you're making built-in cabinets, if you're not already aware, most garage floors slope down towards the garage door----In my garage, while making built-ins, I found the slope was close to 1/4" per 10 ft. or more. Just be aware of this if you're building cabinets that will include a flat workbench surface.

What with it being a nice garage and all he should probably just bite the bullet and put in some nice custom cabinets made of some rare african wood. No point in cutting corners by using cheaper materials in a garage.

Sorry but I can't see plywood faring much better if it gets much water exposure. If its going to be that big a problem make a separate toe-kick platform out of treated and then set the base cabinets on top of it.

Depends on budget. I have particle board and plywood both. They both do fine. If looks are important, painted and trimmed plywood looks pretty good. I have to admit I like the pre-made garage cabinets that have stainless steel tops.

Why not just go all stainless?
Put it on the walls and ceilings too in place of the drywall.

I got you all beat. I have some hideously ugly metal cabinets that came out of a 70's era kitchen. I *want* my garage to flood.

Dave...
Really?
How many people get a flood in the garage?
If that happens you have bigger issues too worry about.

How about snow off a car - that will screw them up pretty quick as well....... Like mentioned set off floor to avoid issues and you'll be fine.

I suppose if you put them right next too your car and at the bottom of the floor slope it could be an issue.
