Hello fellows, I have a Sears table saw that I have bought 12 years ago, it is 10 inch contractor saw. It is ok I am thinking to treat my self for a new one and sell this old one. I was looking in the market for a table saw but could not make my mind. Either to go for 10 inch contractor saw or go for cabinet saw. Would any body please recommend what kind of saw I should go for the budget is 1000-1500 $.

75% of Woodnetters will tell you to go cabinet saw. For your stated budget in new, the Grizzly 1023 or 690 will be the overwhelming favorites. Many other responses will be to buy used at that price range.

IMHO, the steel city cabinet saws are very nice and worth a long look.
Longer warranty than the grizzly and they have them with 110 volt motors if you don't have 220 in the shop.

I don't know what the used equipment market is like where you live, but in the US a used Sears contractor cast iron top table saw in good shape typically goes for around $150. Not much compared to what it is capable of doing. But if you want a new one, Grizzly's cabinet saws are probably the best for the money. But for less than $300 you could put a quality rip fence on your Sears saw and I bet you would be happy unless you regularly need to rip stock that's 2" thick or so, or do a lot of bevel work. But if you still want a "new" saw, and there is a healthy used equipment market where you live, then I'd look to get a used Unisaw, Powermatic, General, or one of the European saws. I have a 1950 Unisaw that I have less than $500 in and it does everything I'll ever ask of it.

This
Saw Stop
Of course after running my finger thru a table saw I'm partial to its safety benefits.

I see used saws on Craigslist every day around here. Even the cadillac and lincoln mercury type jobs.
Keep your eyes open and get a high quality used one.

Given the OP`s location, I`d say this is great advice.

if it's available to the OP, this would breathe a lot of life into his (presumably) 1hp c-man:

one of my saws is the same set up and it handles 8/4 oak with no problem and once set up, it's dead on accurate.

Is this WoodNet in an alternate universe?
OP says he wants to treat himself to a new tablesaw and the folks in this forum are trying to talk him out of it.

Might help if we knew how easy you can have a large item like that shipped.
Shipping from Grizzly to me would be about $100 on a cabinet saw--- see this one.
The shipping to you might be more.

Look for a used cabinet saw in that price range. I think many of us started out like you with a Sears contractor's saw. Do you have Craig's list or something similar in Qatar? By the way, I've been there 4 times....don't know why I said that...I just did.

For me the choice would never be a contractors saw or cabinet saw. It would be hybrid saw or cabinet saw.

This old teacher suggests you inform yourself before buying anything. Best source of information on table saws is Jim Tolpin's Table Saw Magic. This book contains good, thorough, and clear discussions of options and "cost-benefits". Good luck, whatever you decide.

You mean either a hybrid or cabinet but not a contractor's saw?

For half the money of a new one a good used Powermatic 66 will outlive any of us, and probably the next generation too. I can't think of any reason to want anything else.

I'd check out sears hybrid saws. Formerly zipcode saws. One of the best for your bang saws you can get. I have the 22124 but I don't think they carry that model anymore.
A quick glance at sears site and it looks like they've only got the granite model (22116). Personally I like the cast iron because I can use magnetic featherboards but you may feel differently. You may check your local store and see if they have the older models in stock. 22124 22114 22104

I started with an old Sears cabinet saw that was 25+ when I bought it.
Adding a high end fence and miter gauge was like getting a brand new saw. Lasted me several more years before I finally replaced it with a used Uni.
The Sears was the saw I was using when I started writing woodworking articles for WWJ. Much of my best work was done there.
Of the options you mentioned, I'd go for a used cabinet saw. Look around. There are woodworking equipment dealers in Qatar. They take saws in in trade (or closed businesses) and if you are patient you can get an great deal.

What can you find on the secondhand market in Quatar or nearby countries? Do you have 3 phase power 220 volt?
There are plenty of good old cast iron table saws on the secondhand market in southern Europe. They are built for professional use but since the industry started using only sheet goods in large sizes the old saws became surplus because their sliding tables aren't bid enough. They are nowadays often sold for reasonable prizes. Maybe you could get hold of one and have it shipped?
