Very informative list... I got one question what does "IGIT' stand for? I been thinking it's a woodnetter or woodworker or something to that effect...

K.L. (McReynolds),
An updated list, i.e., "List of Acronyms - Updated nn/nn/nn" will be out in a day or two. I've already added about 40 new acronyms and still searching the different posts/threads/forums for additional suggestions/corrections.
I noted that you have been helping everyone on this "acronym" thing and I thank you greatly for it both from myself and those that use it. On that note, where would you suggest I put the new list so as to do the most good? (And this time, I'll try to keep it updated more frequently).
Again, thank you!
LNS and blackhat, I can't find any reference to IGIT but am going to guess "I Guess It's True" and will go with that for now.
Regards, Joe

I don't think so Joe, Cause these guys refer to Igit as in " we had an Igit get together" ... more of an adjective.

It isn't an acronym, Joe, it's a word. Trying to backform words into acronyms doesn't do much for the credibility of your list.

Bump and its derivatives are used to bump a thread back to the top of a page.

I just sat down to my computer today thinking, “Boy, someone should post a list of commonly-used abbreviations around here!” So I started making a list. Looks like you beat me to the punch! Great list! Here are a few that are conspicuous by their absence:
DT dovetail
IMO in my opinion (used almost as much as IMHO)
FWIW for what it’s worth
PM private message (yes, I’ve seen guys inquire about what this is….)
OP original post
LA low-angle, as in planes
IME in my experience
But maybe these are on the updated list anyway. Looking forward to the seeing the final version.
But I still don’t get what QFT stands for. I’ve seen it used mostly as an agreement. Am I just dense, here?

qft... think there are a couple of uses...
some use it to reinforce their agreement with the poster..
some use it to quote the original poster (OP), before they can go in there and edit the remarks they made..
thats my take on it..

"Igit" (Idiot) was originally used as a derogatory term for basement (off topic) posters and it worn by them (us) as a badge of honor.

Nms,
WTB usually means "Wanted To Buy" and is found in the classified section. And I'm surprised that it isn't already in the "acronyms list" --- I'll add it on my next update if there is one.
Thanks for bring it to my attentions.

Link is still no good.
Great idea, having an acronym list... But instead of maintaining two lists, why doesn't K.L. McReynolds keep this list updated?
And what does CL mean (as used here)?

Folf or folfs is folk or folks. It came out of a typo here years ago and kind of got adopted.

This list should be required reading for all newbies (DAMHIKT )!
The link to an updated list is giving this message:
Quote:
We could not find the post or forum that you were trying to access.
Please use your back button to return to the previous page.
I really appreciate the work that has gone into making this list. Perhaps the OPer (Original Poster) could edit their OP (Original Post) so that OP (Other People) (ok, I'm carried away - someone should carry me away) wouldn't have to read thru everything and could have the alphabetic index from which to work.
'twould be nice to have the words, when used in context, have a mouse-over pop-up-definition, but that would be both too hard to make happen and too easy for us newbies.

ty ty ty! I have been going nuts wondering what a lot of these meant. I actually left the website a couple times because I couldnt understand the WW's lingo. Bump was driving me nuts, but I thought it was a persons way of showing they were in checking on their post. OP I just figured out 2 days ago although I figuered it out to be the person who started the thread a while ago. Glad I found this link. The DAMHIKT had me totally stumped though. I always learn something new everyday on this forum, including how little I actually know about wood and woodworking, when I thought I knew a lot. I'm finding out I'm just beginning to learn and look forward to learning from the best.

Gumping is a term that a long time member named the act of choosing to "Ignore this User", which is available to all members.
Just click on his name, and then look in the lower right hand side of your display for the option.
It's a referral to Forrest Gump, the movie. One of his lines was "And then he was gone!"
So, when you "Ignore a User", he is "Gumped".

A domed post has the capitol icon in the title to denote its political content. Given the nature of poliposts, there is an option to make them invisible for those that prefer.
