Somebody here mentioned that they saw the new veritas saw at Berea. I found this picture of what I assume to be it at mattsbasementworkshop -
Is it just me, or is this not the ugliest saw ever? It reminds me of some klingon thing from star trek.
If the back is cast, I can see how it would make production easier with regards to handle attachment, but I think they could have refined the shapes a bit more...

it's kind of ugly, but if it's like every other veritas tool - you point it at what you want it to cut and it will cut it as well as anything you'll find.
it'll find buyers. I would be one of them if I was a western saw buyer.
And here, I thought the veritas dovetail saw was a pullsaw attached to a dovetail marker shaped thing. I guess that thing I'm thinking of has been around for a while, and I wasn't aware of it.

I agree that is is nothing to look at but I can say that it cuts every bit as good as a saw that I paid almost twice as much for. If I hadn't needed one right away, I probably would have waited and ordered this one.

Granted, it's not what I'd call an attractive saw but it's certainly functional and fits with the Veritas style. And, at about half the cost of what some might call "prettier" saws it gets you performance at a better price. Plus, it looks like the saw blade is easily removable for sharpening or replacement. You can buy two blades and rotate them when one needs sharpening or you ding a blade. I'm thinking that Rob won't have a problem finding buyers.

I believe it was $67 at Berea. Not sure if that is the normal price or a promotional price.

The handle looks very comfy! Overall Veritas does not build the prettiest tools but the best designed.
Btw: would you believe this is a Tyzack?

I believe either Matt or one of the other podcasters mentioned something like $65. Even if it is ugly in the traditional sense that is the first good quality backed dovetail saw to coast in under $100. The new Disston saws look like cheap knockoffs and are going for over $125.
I think Rob is onto something with the price point. Get some saws off the shelf and into the shop by making them functional and a bit more attainable to the average cheapskate-pennypinchin woodworker
