The creator of SawStop demonstrates his saw really works by touching a running saw.

Wow. Cool and Scary at the same time.
One reason I shy away from the sawstop is the fact I would be tempted to do the same thing.

Not after you realize that it'd cost you $90 for a new cartridge, and another $100+ for a new (quality) blade.
And put the saw out of commision until you get the new cartridge.
Gotta give Steve Gass credit though, he quieted the "nay sayers" that said "if it was so good, why is he using a hot dog".

If you're serious about WW and you have a sawstop, you'd need to keep a spare blade and spare cartridge laying around to minimize down time. For me, if I triggered a sawstop I'm pretty sure I would stop working for the day, maybe more. But I'm also a hobbyist and a few days down time wouldn't make or break me in the pocket, just the soul. But if you lost your finger to a non-SawStop blade, how much down time would you have then ??

amazing. I've seen the hot dog thing, but for him to do that with his own finger, that is some faith in your product.

If you can afford a sawstop, those expenses are not a factor.

I own one and certainly do not want to incur the expense of replacing a cartridge/blade.

I'm sure none of us want to, I believe the comment was intended to mean "If you can afford a Sawstop, you can afford to have the extra's". Even us bottomfeeders that don't have Sawstops often have extra blades in the shop.
