Reciprocating Saws: Which one?
      #4372553 - 06/27/09 03:11 PM

My 30 year old reciprocating saw is too old. Blades fall out of the antiquated blade mount easily.

Which brands/models do you all like? I prefer corded, but could get swayed if you feel strongly.

I bought a cheap Ryobi, cause I just don't use one enough to warrant putting a lot of money into one. It's done everything I've asked of it, but that's not much.

I wasn't much help was I?

Milwaukee is the one to beat, but PC compares on features and beats it on price IMHO. Get one with orbital.

Rather partial to the Milwaukee myself. Get the quick change chuck & quick lock cord.

When I was in the trades Milwaukee was IT. Still is for me.

In the late '60s, I bought a Rockwell and plumb wore it out in only about 25 years. Some things just don't last, I guess. I then got a real Milwaukee SawzAll that's still going. I can't decide whether I want it to last another 30 years or to die so I can get a cordless. I can't see buying another one then ignoring one of them.

Sure I can move that. Would you like it $10,000 to the left or $10,000 to the right?

Another vote for the Milwaukee. Although I saw where Craftsman Professional tested well. I got Dad the Milwaukee that has the orbital handle for Christmas last year.

I'll say that the feature I would look for is a counterbalance. That new Milwaukee is 10X smoother than any older recip saw I used.

the makita will run circles around the Milwaukee. Heck, I prefer my PC one to my Milwaukee one, but my Makita one over both of them. The thing is a frickin chain saw.
