Stanley buys Black & Decker
      #4565582 - 11/02/09 05:18 PM

I just saw a news items on CNN-Money stating that Stanley has purchased Black & Decker in a stock deal. What do you think this will mean for us woodworkers?

Yep, Stanley did indeed purchase B&D for a deal valued at 4.5 Bln. What does this mean to woodworkers? Probably nothing, other than we will be buying all our Delta, Porter Cable, DeWalt and B&D from Stanley.

Since Delta and Porter Cable were purchased from Pentair by B&D, nothing seemed to really change as far as us woodworkers are concerned, They did consolidate their distribution and repair facilities. PC was kind of relegated to 2nd class status under the new arrangement. I'm sure a lot went on behind the scenes as far as personnel was concerned, however.

I guess only time will tell.

Yep..My wife works at Mac Tools Corporate (owned by Stanley) office in Columbus, Ohio. She told me about the buyout this afternoon. I might be seeing some discounts coming my way.

Sure. Some of us avoid the basement at all costs.

Obviously not a done deal since it was just announced today. Deal is expected to close in the first half of 2010 per the announcment. I seriously doubt, however, that the justice dept. will be too concerned about a "Tool Monopoly".

Maybe Stanley will make it easier to get replacement parts -- I was told by a dealer that B&D was only interested in selling new tools -- not repairing old ones

Don't worry... Bill missed the Black and Decker post that was in Power Tools and beat the one in Off Topic by a half hour.
