well, I guess I'm qualified to answer the question as I actually have a Husqvarna tractor.

Mine is about 8 years old. I have somewhere around 400 hrs on it. It's been a good tractor for mowing grass, pulling a dump cart, lawn roller, etc. When I bought mine, they were just starting to get popular. I have a YTH150, 15hp, 42" cut. Kohler Command, single cyl engine, hydro tranny Shortly after I bought mine, they made several upgrades to the design, but since then, they've expanded their product line a good bit and I haven't followed them much, so I really don't know a lot about what's out there today.

As someone already mentioned, they are basically a Craftsman clone. Now for guys wanting a heavy duty tractor for plowing, tilling, etc, there are better options, but for general mowing and light pulling tasks the Craftsman/Husq/AYP tractors have a pretty decent track record and generally get high marks in Consumer Reports, for what that is worth.

Bill,
I have the same tractor. Bought in 2001 or 2002. Its held up well. Used for cutting 1/3 acre twice a week, hauling with a dump cart. etc. Not a bad machine for the money spent.
Does yours have the throttle as a pistol grip lever on the right rear fender? That design is certainly strange--has you driving one handed just to have throttle control.
One thing I do like about the old ones is the ability to mow in reverse. No lock out on these babies!

Would anyone like to post a quick review on the Husqvarna riding mowers? I am currently looking at the 46". Thanks.

When I bought mine in 2001-2002 I comparison shopped and found many of the riding tractors had a frame that looked to be the same. I surmised they were built with components out of the same factory. Craftsman, Husky, something-white, Mtd. Yard Man,(and even John Deere) appeared to have the same (or similar chassis) The engines used were either BS or Kohler , pick your favorite. The other appointments, seating, tires, etc were a little different on each machine.

Overall, the Kohler engine (command pro) has held up well. Some of the newer ones have Kohler Courage engines which have nylon camshafts and are generally less rugged than the Command series engines.

Can't say anything bad about the tractor. It sure isn't a Kubota, but then again, the price paid was not anywhere in that league.

I have a 15 HP Husqy and have had it for about 10 years. The only problems I have had are due to the operator--me. My yard is a good 2+ acres and it has done just fine. If you get one be sure it has the Kohler engine; I think they are better than the B&S engine.

Hope this helps.

If you mean the hydro control, yes I have the one with it on the right fender. In fact, that was a major reason I bought the Husq. For my yard, it just worked better.

Mowing in reverse, Unfortunately seems many new tractors make that hard to do.

I've been looking at the lawn tractors because I'll need a new one in the spring. The Husq has an ignition key position that will let you mow in reverse. It's one of the reasons I'll consider a Husq.

I too have a husqvarna. It's a 24hp with a 48" deck. I've had it for 5 yrs and I run it "year around" as I have a snow blower with it also. I use it at my Dad's place and my own and it takes about 4 hrs to do both, which is good cuz it took about 6 with my old rider. I have nothing but good to say about it. It has good power and I haven't had a problem with it at all. I would definately recommend it. I think for the money, it's a good buy.

If you are looking to spend around $2000 for a lawn tractor my first choice would be Husqvarna, then Deere, then Cub Cadet with the sears, etc being below that.

Well, my BIL sold me his that he just bought new in July. he paid nearly $1800 for it and I bought it for $1K. It has only been used a few times this summer and has about 12 hrs. on it. It is 46" cut, 20 HP, Hydro. Not a scratch on it, and it made for pretty light and easy work on my 2+ acre property, I even hooked it up to a trailer and moved some firewood with it today. All in all, I would say I am very pleased with it. I went from an old MTD 42" manual to this, it feels like VW Beetle to a Mercedes.

I had a Husqvarna zero-turn for 6 weeks but I returned it since Sears couldn't supply me with the proper bagger. It was a very nice machine.
