Got a 2X2 chunk for turning. Came with wax covering all of it. Does that mean the wood is still green? Do I remove the wax and turn right away? Thanks..Bill

Most normally treat fully waxed wood as still wet. I would remove the wax from the sides (a card scrapers does a quick and easy job here) and let it dry for a while. If you have a moisture meter you could check it when you remove the wax, but bloodwood is so dense I'm not sure I would trust it on a thicker piece.

Do you know what you'll turn with it yet? If you're going to turn something much thinner than 2", then you could rough turn a cylinder to get the thickness down, to aid in drying.

Hey all. A friend of mine came in from Ohio this weekend and gave me a couple bowl turning , as well as other stuff , lessons. He brought a red oak bowl he had just finished. He turned it green and had it dry in 2 weeks. He had done something I never heard of or seen mentioned here but thought I'd throw it out for you. The green bowl was turned to about 1 inch thickness. Then he soaked it for a day in denatured alcohol then brown bagged it for 2 weeks. then he finished turning and finished.Thought it was interesting and like I said have never heard of that before.
