2x6 contest(with judge list)
      #4904005 - 05/31/10 09:54 PM

With Mac's permission; we're going to run a contest during the month of June. Get yourself a single construction grade 2" x 6" x 8' and make something beautiful out of it.

The contest rules are:
1. Use only one construction grade 2" x 6" x 8'
2. You make make anything you want out of it.
3. You can enter multiple projects if you wish. Post your entries to the Woodworking or Turning forums as appropriate.
4. Deadline for all entries is midnight on June 30th with the winners named in each category around July 4th.
5. You're only permitted to add glue, dye and finish. Wood burning will be considered a finish. Nothing else including hardware or veneers are allowed. Veneer from the single 2x6 itself is allowed - any others are not.
6. All entries must include photos of their finished project including construction photos (so you can verify you followed the rules). Include "2x6 contest" in the title of your post

I've asked Mac to try to get the mods to judge the contest for us. No prizes except for bragging rights and maybe an honorary title.

We'll name winners in each of the following categories:
  • Useable
  • Furniture
  • Turned
  • Weird

Judges are:
Eightfingers
Blacky's Boy
Bibliophile 13
barnowl
Anthony Yak
Mac

Sounds good. I may come out of semi-retirement for this one.

I'm assuming this means it must only be PINE?

We'll go with this definition from wikipedia which I've modified.

Finished lumber is supplied in standard sizes, mostly for the construction industry, primarily softwood from coniferous species including pine, fir and spruce

Can I use 8/4 red oak that is about 5-1/2" wide?

That's all I have in stock right now. Oops, I missed Gary's post. Looks like good hardwood is out. Rats!

Can reclaimed pine timber be used if it was, in fact, used as a 2" X 6" in construction?

AFAIC that is the only way one could successfully execute anything that had a remote chance of living a long life .

Clue to all you who are considering this

If you can't fix it with a hammer, it must be an electrical problem.
