Last summer I attended the Lie-Nielsen Open House and took some photos of a beautiful wall hung tool cabinet designed and built by Christian Becksvoort. Undoubtedly you will know Chris from his many FWW articles. His cabinet was on display as a promotional item for his shop classes as well as a unique way to promote Lie-Nielsen tools. I was able to get a handful of photos of the cabinet in the showroom before I wandered off to see the rest of the presenters. I wanted to get more photos of the cabinet, but there were always a lot of people milling around and gawking at it and I didn't want to slip in the drool. Sadly I ran out of memory card space before I was able to come back and finish the job. Here are the photos I was able to get:

This past week I was able to attend the Lie Nielsen Winter Open House. The first thing I saw when I walked into the back room was the same cabinet sitting on the Fine Woodworking table. At least I thought it was the same cabinet until I walked up to inspect. I quickly realized that the cabinet was a new and improved version of the previous model. I lost no time in getting my camera out and managed to get a lot more photos of version 2:

Details:

d11 - d12 - d13 - d14 - d15 - d16 - d17 - d18 - d19 - d20
d21 - d22 - d23 - d24 - d25 - d26
Chris also had a smaller wall hung cabinet on display at the same table as part of The Herbie Project

The price on these tool cabinets was around $14,000 with the tools, and about $10,500 without. I didn't actually write the prices down though they were written on a sheet of paper next to the display. I was told by the LN bench shop manager that the first one sold at a slight discount and was shipped off to the new owner. The second one was still for sale as of last week. I'm not sure why these cabinets have not gotten much publicity. I hope you enjoy the photos and perhaps get inspired to design and build your own cabinet.
[Edit] I just looked at one of the high resolution pictures and could just barely read the text on the flyer on top of the 2nd cabinet. It says:
Inspired by the Studley tool chest, we have commissioned renowned furniture maker Christian Becksvoort to make a tool cabinet that will be the center piece of any shop. Chris will build only 3 of these cabinets, making each a very limited edition. The cabinet has been made to house a broad range of tools to satisfy the needs of most woodworkers.
Price with tools $14,000
Price without tools $10,800
Please see a Lie-Nielsen staff member for more information.

My eyes are bugged out at both the beauty of those cabinets and the price tag. Fun stuff to look at. And you did a great job on the pics, thank you!

Gosh, thanks for posting all these brilliant pics, Jeff. Just as I was framing a question, *click* and another picture would answer it. All the detail is very much appreciated, given that I'd have marginally more chance of making my own than buying one.
Cheers, Alf

Add my +1 to this. I love looking at tool containment solutions, and this one is a work of art.

What is the saying a picture is worth a thousand words, OMG what beautiful Tool Cabinets. Those are magnificent to say the least. They are defiantly out of my price range, but that doesn't keep one from drooling
Thanks for sharing the nice picture's and close up details those will be very useful.

Jeff,
Thank you for taking and posting these pictures, they're great. A tool cabinet is one of the projects I have on the list for next year, so your posting is well timed. My cabinet certainly won't look like these, but they well serve as inspiration.
Regards, Steve
