Covered after the lender had the place winterized. Orange note is to inform the water is off and antifreeze is in the trap. Plastic wrap is an attempt to stop use. It didn't work. : puke:

Just powered up the well and refilled the hot water tank. It doesn't work and I now need to dump 55 gallons (with a bucket) Ugh!!!!

Bathroom has been removed as well as the staircase to the attic.
2/3 of the main floor is now open and almost ready to be reconfigured for more space and better flow. Looking at a much more open floor plan.

3 bedroom house will be pared down to one bedroom and I'm making it handicap accessible. If I end up in worse shape later on, all I'll have to do is add ramps...
Now:

Hey JR....Is nice to open up those rooms like that. Are there real headers up in that ceiling?

Yes...
It is more than adequate. I'll be finishing the attic space in the future.
Crap job on the doors and windows huh

I'll be replacing all the windows. Haven't decided if I'll replace them with new construction or replacements yet. I want to save the exterior siding and trim and having to mess with that is a consideration.
The exterior has 2 layers of cedar shingles. The original layer looks to be in fine condition and if all goes as planned, they will be stripped bare and repainted.

Those are great large, southern facing windows. As the interior is now open and you say you're going to strip and repaint the exterior, this would be a fine time for new construction windows. I think they are a nicer look and provide more sf of glass.

That is going to be an amazing one bedroom house

Andrew

Did they REALLY just drywall over that french door? Wow...what some people do, though glad for you they left the old door there...looks very nice.

Had a buddy buy an old house that had nice wide trim - all painted with about 6 layers of paint. When we stripped it off it was gorgeous qtr sawn white oak...ever bit of it in perfect shape. No idea why anyone would paint it....

The covered the french door with some type of cement board and PLASTERED over it. I assume it was like that for a several decades at the very least. The plaster had horse hair in it...

I can't imagine living with the doors partially covered but then again, I can't understand how anyone lived in that house as it was when I purchased it.

This area, from the chimney to the far wall will be kitchen. The rest of what you see from the camera to the kitchen will be left open to the kitchen as an informal livingroom. When needed, it will do double duty as a diningroom.

Bead board ceiling was delivered yesterday.
Strapping for it is in progress and should be done soon.

Haven't decided upon a finish yet. We may leave it natural and just spray it with shellac. Lacquer didn't fair too well last time I used it. It's flaking off some 6 years later

The shellacked ceiling in the house 4 years old looks much nicer.

The flooring under the vinyl has been removed and will be salvaged.
Replacing it is some pre-finished natural bamboo... It looks nice, I hope it hold up to traffic.
