It's too rich for my blood too, just curious to see what it goes for. The blade looks to be pitted but the handle is nice, and would probably clean up well. No bids, but there's a lot of time left.

Just wondering if this is one of those "antique" tools where cleaning would diminish the value? One thing for sure would be the effect of a bungled clean-up compared to a well executed one.

No, it would get cleaned some because Red Rust is not attractive on tools and is easily removed - other than the red rust, perhaps.
Overall it looks like light, loose red rust and a salvageable plate, except possibly a couple inches at the toe that appear to be fairly well pitted. From what I can see, the tote looks in very good shape.
I wouldn't mind having it, but I bet once the bidding gets going it won't be had for that price.
