Assistant to Lil' Abner at the mattress factory.
I grew up admiring Abner, and his luck in the job he landed. To go further I`d have to go to the basement and dome the thread

I've always worked for other people building expensive custom homes....from footing to finish. Only been in the furniture/ arts&crafts end of carpentry for a couple years now, but slowly getting my name out there.

Hobby Woodworker for me, and barely that now.
I work full time as an architect designing retirement communities and similar buildings.
BUT...
I also own and operate a beef cattle farm with my brother and father. So it's a full time job as well, but without the pay and benefits.

Woodworking is an avocation that is necessary for me to follow my vocation.

I am a civil designer (CAD work) by day. I am responsible for designing and drawing up new and rehab work for roads. I like my job, but it gets a little tedious after a while. Especially when I see the same 4 walls day after day.
I've only been woodworking for a couple years and I find it very relaxing. I haven't sold anything yet and I am still on the fence about trying to. I think my "honey-to-do list" is a bit long at this point to even think about trying to sell my work. I have had some very encouraging words from people who have done WW for years which has pushed me to explore into other areas of WW.
BTW...great thread.

It was a hobby with very part time income for years, but after becoming a dislocated worker in 2009 and again 2011 I started working on it full time. But I don't get that many woodworking or cabinetry projects. I refinish hardwood floors more than anything else I do. It's hard, dirty work and not glamorous work, but it pays well for the time involved. Occasionally I'm commissioned to install some trim.
My workshop is not large enough right now for production type work. In fact some cabinetry projects cannot even be assembled in my shop. A few I have to assemble or partially assemble on site.

Retired military. I worked as a contracted instructor for the Army for 5 years while finishing up my masters. I am now working as a technical writer while searching for something else more MBA related. I have been tossing around the idea of starting my own woodworking related business for the past year. I wrote up a business plan for it, but just don’t feel like I am in the financial position to do it quite yet.

I work for Oracle helping sell HR software. Been here for 16 yrs and another HR vendor for 10 before that.
Hobbyist woodworker. Started out doing WW since I was a kid (1970s) with my father. I've sold 2 pieces to date, but when I retire I hope to hang out my WW shingle with this slogan:
"Good, Fast and Cheap.......pick any 2."
