1. Do you own a table saw? Users may choose 2 (350 total votes) Contractors or bench 123 35% Saw stop 22 06% European designed Table saw. 9 02% Cabinet saw 196 56%
Says to me that Sawstop has not done much in the private market. Surprising? not really
Have you ever had an accident or injury while using one of these saws? Users may choose only one (316 total votes) Yes 113 35% No 203 64%
Once again not too surprising, see below
Did the injury require a trip to a doctor/ER Users may choose only one (280 total votes) Yes 34 12% No 246 87%
Based on the average amount of time one would use a TS either we are a much more conscientious of work practices or the rate of injuries that are the basis for pretty electronically designed prevention saws are bogus.
Does your present saw have one of the following: Users may choose only one (308 total votes) A splitter 93 30% A riving knife 50 16% An electronic device (sawstop or equal) 18 05% A blade cover in place 50 16% A blade cover someplace in my shop. 53 17% My saw came with one of these?? 44 14%
Again, it appears that most woodworkers use at least _something_ on the saw to protect against injuries. I likely deserve a on this one or the amount of riving knives Bascibob has sold is more impressive than I expected
Have you ever had a close call with a kickback while cutting wood on your saw. Users may choose only one (315 total votes) Yes 193 61% No 122 38%
See below:
If yes was Users may choose only one (171 total votes) The splitter/riving knife in place at the time? 34 19% The stock twisted, bowed, rough or otherwise defective as in pinched the cut or similar? 115 67% The blade cover was in place 16 09% I reached over the saw to retrieve the part that kicked back? 6 03%
bold added above. It appears that the lion's share of kickback style incidents prove one of the basic tenets of WW: if it is a banana in any way shape or form you just as well have thrown a banana peel on the floor and stepped on it causing you to slip..
If you had the cash and were looking for a new saw would you Users may choose 2 (377 total votes) buy a Sawstop 107 28% buy a euro style saw 28 07% buy whatever saw I could afford 54 14% keep my present saw and buy wood 148 39% buy beer. (for after the shop session!) 40 10%
this maybe is a bit closer than I expected based on the above results. I did state you could buy what you choose or nothing at all (well beer and wood ) it appears to me that most owners either hate Gass enough to not buy his saw or price is king or you are satisfied with what you got.
Agree? Disagree?

I apparently read this wrong and not the way you meant it. It sounded to me as if you were say this happened AFTER the cut started. I have have had them move after the cut started, mostly pinch up on the blade or splitter. So I voted yes.
I would never run a twisted board through, I know better.

I don't think you can draw that conclusion. When I asked (in a previous poll) about those who purchased a cabinet saw in the last 5 years the SS was much higher. It's misleading to compare less expensive saw's (contractor models) and that SS hasn't been around nearly as long as many have owned their saws.
None of our polls are scientific but it's always entertaining and fun to participate.

This survey was obviously aimed at SawStop to denigrate it and/or to otherwise criticize the technology. Nothing will convince this OP that it has credence IMHO.

I agree. You are asking the question of woodworkers who already have saws, most of whom bought them long before Sawstop was in existence. A poll after another ten years might see a significantly higher percentage owning Sawstops, simply because more new entrants into the market will now have an option that wasn't available to us old guys. Also, some of us might switch after a few more years as our vision and coordination fade.

Sawstop, at it's price point has to compete with other brands that have a reputation for quality and innovation. Something sawstop has not fully developed yet being a newer company. So when a buyer is about to plunk down $3000 for a new saw, he has to decide between safety and features, quality, and innovations of Delta and PM. I don't think it is necessarily a statement on sawstop but maybe the successful marketing and brand loyalty of the others

For name recognition Delta is definitely king. Most buyers are unaware of the changes in ownership. I know more people that refer to the SS as the "hot dog saw" than as Sawstop and many might be hard pressed to tell you the actual name. Maybe they should change their logo to a hot dog.
I still believe they are outselling other cabinet saws by far. I wonder if they are looking to expand to band and chop saws?
