Ordered windows from HD
      #5975858 - 06/29/12 04:38 PM

Just ordered the SImonton windows from HD. They had a sale starting today so the price is even cheaper. Hard decision but that part is done. Of course now my wife was asking the salesman about us not being happy, holding final payment, all sorts of negative things - I could see the salesman smile turn down. I will temper my wife's OCD, maybe.

HD. They had project manager on site with subs. Then HD will do a final inspections before us signing off. The install warranty is with HD and not with the subs - an important factor for me. All warranty work will be handled by HD. I believe this is a change from the past.

Didn't they tell you the installers were HD employees? What happened to that?

Not that there is anything wrong with the subs. Just curious.

HD's team is lead by an employee - I may have misunderstood that. There will be an employee here and then a final inspection by an employee. One thing that I liked is that the install warranty is with HD and not another company. The sales rep also said that there is a new policy with HD that if you call corporate they have a new "no" policy. The customer is not told no to products sold and warrantied by HD. I think we'll be fine with the install. The frames are in real good shape it's the rest of the window that stinks.

Can you explain the "no policy"? I didn't understand what it is.

From what the sales rep said was that corporate policy is now to take care of the customer. If the company sold the product then the company is suppose to support the product. Store managers are not to pass the buck to the manufacturers. If the managers do then call corporate headquarters - the head quarters will tell the manager to take of the customer.

i can kind of echo that. when the frames of my american craftsman replacement windows purchased from HD failed, american craftsman begged off the "lifetime warranty" stating it was for manufacturing defects. and they defined manufacturing defects as somethng that would occur within 6 months of installation. i pointed out to them this meant they were really offering only a 6 mos. warranty. they didn't budge. went back to the selling store which promptly ordered replacement frames at HD expense. all i have to do is reinstall them.

BTW, the lower corners on my windows are the corners that failed. one small suggestion once your windows are installed. close them carefully. with the interior window sill in place, i'm not aware of any way to really support the bottom of the vinyl window frame, so the welded corners take the brunt of the downward closing force. the problem you avoid is the one you don't have to fix.

there's a solution to every problem.....you just have to be willing to find it.

Sounds like a good deal.
Glad to hear that you got that stress out of the way!
Enjoy the windows!
