Screening a 100gal propane tank.
One side is against garage wall.
The fence on the front side should be removable for the obvious reasons.
Thinking of using 2X4 joist hangars for the top and bottom horiz rails.
However, for maintenance-free and appearances purposes, I want to slide left-over 4X4 vinyl fence posts over the 4X4 PT posts.
Joist hangars are mfg'd to fasten to wood [e.g., the little prongs that are there to hammer into the wood to set the hangars in place before using your favorite fasteners.]
I could try hammering those prongs into the vinyl OR just leave them alone. If I do the latter, though, the prongs will interfere with my butting the vinyl pickets right up to the post [in order to disguise the hangars].
Is there a better plan for making the front fence section removable?
Is there a better choice than using 2X4 hangars?

Some municipalities have regulations on placement and coverings for propane tanks. Best check to see if there are any regulations.

Does it have to be a fence? Plant some bushes.

checked with "city hall" ['just don't cover it'] and propane supplier ['as long as we can get at it to fill it and remove it if necessary']...it's the supplier's tank.
Hence, no bushes [also because they wouldn't "fit" with existing landscaping]

I can't envision how those doohickeys would interfere if you are covering the whole joist hanger?
I wouldn't try to drive them through the vinyl, I would drill a clearance hole through the vinyl then pound them flat.
Why not buy the correct mounting bracket and trim piece for the rail?
For example...

Similar to what Cletus posted, I put up a couple of sections of vinyl picket fence to hide my A/C unit. There are pockets that the rails fit into that screw into the posts. I suppose it wouldn't matter what the posts were made of, or could even be a wall. You should be able to get them at the BORG or anywhere that sells such picket fences.

CLETUS.......
Thanks for the ideas! I knew someone on WN would have a "better mousetrap." I stopped thinking about a better solution when I decided on 2X4 PT as horizontal rails! PVC pickets....why not PVC rails............DUH?

My question is it allowed to reside against a garage wall? At least down south, you have to be a ways from a building. Mine is about 40 ft, brother's is closer to 80. I know I wouldn't want it next to the garage or house...... BTW, I hid mine with lattice, one side removable. But like the PVC

Well, John, here in the LIVE FREE OR DIE state, code allows the tanks next to the garage [at least in my city]. I see them against houses, too. I pulled a permit for the installation to a fireplace. When it was done, the city inspector signed off on the work.
I looked at vinyl [for low maintenance] lattice @ the BORG. But I decided against it due to the waste I would have. And the BORG doesn't cut ANY lattice and I would have had to borrow a pickup!
