Unfortunately a local furniture maker / sawyer is being forced to move because the landlord is selling the property he rents. However, he posted on CL that he's selling all his wood at $1 per bf.
I went to see what he had. I knew I couldn't get much. I don't do much WWing because I'm a rookie hobbiest and have two 3 month old twins. However, I couldn't pass it up.
I came away with 25bf of 5/4 cherry, all from the same tree and some with live edge. Also, I snagged some 1/4 spalted maple.
I paid a total of $30.
There were a few people there buying up 100s of bf of wood at a time. I don't blame them. This guy had apparently made good use of the Woodmiser sitting outside his shop.
Pics because it happened:

Great to get a deal like that . Those top two boards on the left, look like they are quarter sawn, are they?

Whenever I come across a deal like this it seems I recently exhausted any $ I saved up for the shop on something else. Usually grand kids or a charty

And yes, I too think you should have forgone groceries and any other essentials for a few weeks to fill your car to the roof.

I'm too stingy.
I just couldn't justify spending tons of money on wood that will - in all likelihood - sit for a long long time. I'm in the middle of making planter boxes for my wife... there are times when I can only get literally one cut in before I hear the kids cry or something else needs done.
If anyone in is Easter MA send me a PM and I'll give you the fellas number. When I left there was still a lot of wood to be had. I forgot to check out the small cache of black walnut he had. Lots of cherry, maple, oak. Most kilned, some not. Some even surfaced already... all of it for $1 per bf.
