I love the Woodwright's Shop. Popular Woodworking Magazine is selling DVDs of some of his early shows, but you probably already know that later shows are available free online.

Anything by Chris Schwarz or Paul Sellers is worth a look. They're both very practical in their approach to hand tools and are extremely clear in their presentation styles.

"general instruction and inspiration"

Nobody has hit those notes better (for me) than Frank Klausz and Jim Kingshott.

Thank you for the info/suggestions! Besides the Hands video suggestion, seems like I was moving in the right direction.

I watched the Hands video preview at Benchcrafted with my kids, it held their attention all the way thru. But, I think we are leaning more toward hand tool woodworking.

My kids favorite shows are what they call "working shows" where there is some sort of craft, skill, manufacturing, construction, etc. Of course there are some terrible DIY shows that neither of us will watch!

Good for you and your kids!! Here are a few that I like. In no particular order, they are:

Dovetailing Apprenticeship by Chuck Bender (member here)
Coarse, Medium and Fine by Chris Schwarz (for hand planes)
Hand Plane Basics by Chris Scwarz

What I like about these is that they are fairly comprehensive and still written for those of us that don't already know everything. The Chuck Bender dvd (IMHO) makes cutting dovetails a LOT less mysterious.

In no particular order? Seriously, Dave?

Any of Rob Cosman's videos, especially his one's on dovetailing are great and if followed will result in near perfect joints.
