Anyone familiar with the fence on these saws. Do you think it would be Adequate on this saw or would it need a modern fence? http://anchorage.craigslist.org/tls/3188747178.html

"Adequate" leaves a lot of room for assumptions
I'd grab it in heartbeat and try it for a while to see how I liked it. Fence certainly looks like it would be better than the early Unisaw fences

Looks like a walker turner 1180 10" saw. Lots of them to look at over at vintage machinery: Walker Turner Saws People got by for years on the original fences, though a new Biesmeyer would probably work nicer. Looks to be in fairly good shape overall. With all the parts there in running shape its well worth the money. Spare parts will be tougher to come by than a comparable Uni, but it is much more of a unique item for sure. Post some better pix if you get it.

If it has the ability to lock solidly parallel to the blade, it's a workable fence. But it looks like there is no measuring tape on the saw, so you'll be putting a rule on it each time. Eventually, I think you'll want a modern fence. But at $200 for a 3hp saw, that's something to work from. Check out the electrical supply requirements for that. I'd guess either 220 or 3ph.

Got one, and it's a good saw. I don't know about 3hp, I've only ever seen 1.5 or less. You need to really cinch down (and have clean mating surfaces etc.) on the two bolts that secure the fence stock to the head. A scale is deeply engraved into the front rail.. I do like the micro-adjust on the fence. Do it.

Those are nice saws for sure - the only real disadvantage to them is that since the slot for the saw blade is in the table top, it makes is very difficult to create ZCI's for it. If that doesn't bother you, then go for it.

that must also make blade alignment pretty critical, especially when a bevel rip is called for.

Got one, 1 hp and I don't think any came with 3 hp, so I expect this one has aftermarket motor. Check and make sure blade elevates as far up as you need. Other than that, it looks complete and well worth the $200 asked. I'd grab it if you don't have decent table saw. Good luck!

Walker Turner makes a good table saw.

I also have one of those saws and like it a lot. The fence locks tight, I have a micro adjust feature on it that is nice. It is a pain to have to measure for the cut each time however. And as was said earlier it was beyond me how to fit a zero clearance insert. Mine is a smooth running saw, much smoother and quieter than the unisaw in my other shop.
