I need to upgrade my 14" HF bandsaw guides and I've been looking at the Carter guides. Any other recommendations?

PM me if you are. I`ll sell you mine. I have both the larger blade issue for resaw, and the smaller blade model for tight curves Yep, Adam Sandoval got me
Actually the blocks work very well, cool blocks are a cheap upgrade, but even the metal ones that come with the saw work, you just have to get them set just so. I find I don`t switch blades like I thought I would, so the blocks are what I end up using.

Thanks Steve. I'm sick of the nylon blocks that came with the saw. Overall I'm pleased with the saw but the side guides really suck.

Ceramics for me. Especially handy if you cut wet wood for turning. Lay them right on the blade.
They even make thrust "bearings" that stay free of gunk and corrosion.

Cool blocks are generally speaking on a 14" saw the best bang for your buck and hard to beat at any price.

HF used to, and may still sell ball bearing guides. I bought a couple sets and have been using them for years now. Add a 3 horse motor and riser block to your machine and you'll have a good resaw device as well.
A circle cutter is another handy accessory. Here I'm cutting a shelf for a lazy susan in some Kitchen base cabs.

Lignum Vitae is used on a lot of the big saws that have a stream of cooling water flowing on them.
For a home workshop working in hardwoods, hardened steel like the ones found on Delta saws is the best. Cut HSS lathe tool bit blanks work as well.
Once I did a friction test. Made a pinch clamp. Hooked up an ammeter. Pinched a running blade and watched the ammeter. All non steel side blocks raised the amperage about 2 amps on the 1/2 HP motor draw. Hardened steel did almost nothing, about .02 or .04 amps, depending on how I'd located the pinch clamp.
As to the heat buildup, ask yourself, how hot does steel have to get before its molecular structure changes and the metal softens? How hot does sawdust have to get to ignite? Side rollers are fine as long as you don't cut wet or resinous woods, then they become a pitch embosser for the side of your blade.
If letting the teeth of your blade get in between your side guides is a common thing, then stick with the non-steel blocks.
Non-steel side guide blocks are soft and take a dent from the locking setscrew. This makes fine adjustment a major nuisance. After turning the guide blocks four times to expose new clamping surfaces, and maybe reversing the blocks, you're out of options.
