Looking for some advice regarding spray finishing.
I have a small Makita compressor that I have used primarily for air nailers and never really considered for spray finishing. I looked into some turbine HVLP rigs, but they are a little beyond my budget.
As luck would have it, I received an email today from Grizzly with a sale on an LVLP gun. Here's the item in question:

It's rated for 3.0-3.9 CFM and my little compressor is rated at 3.8 CFM at 40 PSI. Looks like it will work on paper, but I'm still skeptical.
So, anyone out there have experience with LVLP guns? A waste of $40 or worth a shot for simple finishing projects?

Go for it. My small makita (MAC2400) runs homestead's QS-125WB with no problems. I spray mostly small boxes though, but it does the job nicely.

Thanks.
I have the Makita 700 -- great compressor and the gun is within the recommended range. I'll be sure to post my impressions if I decide to pick one up.

I know a bunch of auto body shops here use them. They can run 2 to 3x as many guns from the same compressor and they have less overspray with some finishes. They use the Optima, Sharp and DeVibless guns.
But figure in the cost of a good oil/water separator and pressure gauge at the gun. After the flow loss from those your compressor maybe marginal.
