I use a $10 HF panel gun and a high build lacquer. The real "secret" is wet sanding in between coats and then wet sanding up to a high grit and then buffing. With some work you can get a glass like surface. The great thing about it is that you don't need a great surface directly from the gun. Fogging, orange peel whatever, unless it is really bad - it will smooth out with wet sanding.
