I've gradually changing all my lightbulbs to Alex compatible. I can turn any one on or off and vary the output from anywhere in the house. I also have switches for some outlets to turn thing on and off. It sure cuts down on some wiring issues.
In response to the original post, you should be able to find a web site where you will be able to get a diagram before you start connecting things. Maybe like this:
