Quite pancake air compressor - Jack01 - 07-29-2015

I have been searching for 6 gallon quite air compressor but so far no luck.

Most popular pancake compressors are Porter Cable and Bostitch in that capacity. Both have oil less compressor and very loud probably around 110 db.

California Air makes one pancake but it is only 3 gallon, which is at 60 db.

I am thinking about buying used 6 gallon pancake compressor and replace its motor with refrigerator or AC unit compressor. They are very quiet. I have seen these types of conversations on You Tube.

These units have small capacity so it will take longer to fill the tank and refill will be longer. But the advantage will be quite so I can use in the evening and nights.

Has anyone tried this? Any experience?

The sound cabinet is a good idea.

I remember someone here built something like that a few years back for a noisy compressor. Some ply, some foam and some fans and it cut the noise quite a bit. I don't remember his being quite as fancy as that with the fittings and all accessible from outside though.

Look up dental compressors...they are expensive, but very quiet.

I am looking for a low cost solution.

Look at the Senco's; not expensive and I was impressed by how quiet they are. Definitely will get one when my current compressor dies.
And since I work alone, I'm getting a little one-1 to 2 gals
