Anybody see R Jennings augers like this before? - doorslammer - 02-02-2016

Hey guys, I found these augers at an estate/junk sale I stumbled on taking a walk. I've never seen auger bits with shanks like these before, they are all stamped Russel Jennings, even on the short ones it's around the circumference so it looks like they were made like this not a mod by somebody. The ends of the shanks have a little different machining on the longer ones.
They were in nice shape so for 5 bucks,,, Apparently this guy did some kind of luther work. Use in a some nkind of hand drill? power hand drill? Anybody have a guess?

Trouble seeing your images; did you select a non-public link?

I'd love to see the photos. I might need to send you back for the brace. If it is what I think it is I need a brace to fill out a set.

Your photo links aren't working but I'll take a guess at what you found.. If the ends of the bits looks like this:

Then you need to go back and look for the brace that matches them. It's a very uncommon set to find. More information on Sandy's excellent site here: http://www.sydnassloot.com/brace/rjennings.htm

That was what I was thinking they were too. Here is my set minus the brace and one bit I think.

Hi Bill, I joined Flickr just to post the pics on here. I thought I followed the instructions on how to post pics on the site. I'm kind of a dumbsh*t tech wise I should have asked my grandaughter to do it for me.

Similar but not quite. There is not slot cut on the end of the shank,on mine there is a "hole" that looks like when a machinist bores a center hole in the end of a rod,and the shank does not reduce after the auger portion of the bit and smaller dia ones it actually increases after the auger portion.

Thanks for replying to my post, I'll try and figure out this picture thing. PM's on the way to both.

Is the hole in the end of the bit threaded?
