Necessity is the mother of invention - SteveF - 08-18-2016

I was cleaning up a Stanley No.2 plane. I had to do a lot of epoxying on the front knob. When I got done, the nut was sticking up out of the knob. I couldn't find my 7/16" forstner bit so I had to improvise. I took a spare Stanley nut, filed down one side of the slot, and beveled the other side. I screwed a tote stud into it and clamped it into a vise. I slipped the knob over it and spun it until I had removed enough material for the nut to sit correctly. It worked great.

Such are the advantages of extra parts! I have a No. 11 Exacto, and nails I grind, then harden on the stove burner for those unique fixes.
