Foley retoother maintenance - Raven907 - 09-22-2016

I have a Foley retoother and decided to sharpen the punch and the anvil.  Has anyone else done this?  The manual says to grind the punch with an angled face so when it punches the saw plate it does so in a shearing motion.  Before I took it out, I would have expected the tip of the V to be the part that contacted the saw plate first.  It wasn't.  The first point of contact to the saw plate is at the top of the V.  It appears that the previous owner put the anvil on the grinder and it had a bevel.  Or more accurately, two or three bevels.  Should that be ground flat?

Thanks,
Tony

Seems to me that shearing would be more uniform if it started at the two bottom points and finished at the apex.

You can come take a look at mine! Do you have a copy of the manual? http://www.alaskawoodworker.com/?ddownload=2161
