All gone

i was just thinking about building a bench... is it feasible to have this shipped to OR?

I highly doubt it would be cost effective to ship. The stuff is super dense and would weigh hundreds of pounds and be on an oversized palette.

If it wasn't a 4 hr drive one way I'd be all over this.

I already have too much lumber but that would make a great bench top. Since I have been thinking about making a bigger one......

Is beech suitable for furniture?

RE: > 200 bf 8/4+ beech - sylvius - 08-08-2017

I'm honored Dave is even considering it but we all know if you build a new bench top it'll be like a 9' x 5' live edge waterfall bubinga slab 4" thick

You can certainly make furniture from it, but it would be rustic style. It generally has some knots, imperfections, checks. Plus, the furniture would be quite heavy (did I mention this stuff is dense?).

Laugh  Not quite. I actually have a curly maple bench top right now but it is too short for me to get my pattern makers vise on one end and keep my quick release vise on the other. I want to make a new bench top 36"x96"x4". Right now I have my order in for some 8/4 ash from one of my sawyers but the beech would probably be even better.

I just realized somehow I had PMs disabled in the system. If interested, please PM me, should be working again.
