Transferring dust collector contents to trash bag - thewalnutguy - 10-23-2017

Emptying a trash can full of planer shavings to a trash bag can be a problem. Put the bag over the top of the can, turn the can upside down, then try to extract the can from the bag doesn't work as the bag clings to the sides of the can by the vacuum created. This morning I tried inserting a 1 1/2" piece of  PVC tubing between the outside of the can and the bag, pulled the can upwards and the shavings transferred to the bag and the can removed easily, no hassle at all. Thinking perhaps a length of 2X4 would accomplish the same thing as the PVC.

Some folks line the trash can with a bag first.

Like John said you can just put the bag in first. If you put the bag in and toss a wood scrap into the bottom it will keep the bag from being sucked out of the can. As the sawdust fills the bag it pushes the bag against the walls of the can.

+1

I have an oneida system, and there is a pressure hose that keeps it from being sucked up. Super slick.
Yes

A piece of rolled up laminate could be used to keep the bag in place.

Grizzly/shop fox make a metal sleeve that fits inside the bag to keep the bag in place.
