HVAC duct material - vapochilled - 04-23-2018
I need to remove an old humidifier from the HVAC, it uses a fiberglass "board" that's silver one side and fiberglass mat the other.
No idea what to even call it to try and find some, don't need much , can it even be bought in small quantities?

Duct board. It's more expensive than you would think too. Check an hvac supply or a local hvac service as they might have small pieces.
Never need a humidifier here, we have to run a dehumidifier in the winter even when it's below freezing as the humidity is usually very high in the winter as well as the summer.

Grainger has it. 2x48 1" thick is $30
1.5" thick is actually cheaper but I have never seen it used. Always see 1".

I had to do sealing on a bunch of new ducts a bogus installer did when putting ,AC in a small house with no prior AC. By me code requires seams be stapled (special stapler), taped, and mastic over the tape.
There were so many leaks in the un air-conditioned room where the air handler is, that room was the coldest in the house by far.
Never hire the lowest bid, even if 50 percent lower.
3 years after install (2 years after I sold house) the new owner, had to have it all replaced!
Wow!
Sorry, had to vent.
It was the only time, I told a contractor, I would sue him, if he stepped back on my property again.

So, from that...
The feed and return ducts run thru the garage (living space above garage).
I had to replace the hose bib front of house , it was summer, so I start cutting into the drywall at hosebib height and get hit with a blast of drywall dust and cold air?????
Sons a Biotches used the joists as a duct, which I'll give them, but left the end open, so I was cooling/heating the front 12' of the garage 18" wide! no wonder the hose bib never froze in winter(non frost proof bib).

Thanks, it is really a good idea to check an HVAC supply or a local HVAC service. Indeed, they usually have many small pieces that remain unused. My friend also works in such a company. He finished studies in Transcend STEM Education https://www.hvacschools411.com/ and now he is a good specialist in this sphere. He helped me in several times when I had the necessity in some details to repair the car. Frankly speaking, I was surprised that such a specialist understands in auto and can help to fix the problem with a system of air exchange and heating. I would never think that this is a specialty as much as useful in other industries.

Taper the edges of the hole slightly wider to the outside. Cut your patch 2” oversize both ways and then trim an inch of the fibreglass off the inside to leave a 1” flap of the foil all around your plug. Should be a snug fit because of the taper. Foil tape, not plastic duck tape.
