Stanley No. 945, 8"    have since rehabbed the brace up

Looks about like my 10" Stanley.....rehabbed the chisel mainly to get rid of the mushroom and re-handle it..
Cool

Still needs the edge sharpened....has a back bevel, and a reverse camber to the edge..

Might take a while, and a gallon of water beside the grinder...

Hit & Miss Rust Hunt....

Ok, that 1-1/2" wide chisel has been fully rehabbed..

Sharpening tools.   Edge has been ground straight, and that dumb looking back bevel removed...

Cleaned up nicely..
Cool

Stamp on the socket says it is a Defiance by Stanley   Made in USA.

Maybe from the 1930s era...

Nice haul!  I'm a big fan of wider chisels for pairing and trimming jobs.

Logo says it is a Sargent 408.....spent $8 on it...had to supply the front knob and bolt....just the threaded post was left..
 Cleaned it up..

Almost everything says it is a type 2...except..

A frog from an Ohio No.0-3 plane?   Rear handle is Rosewood.   Logo on the iron is the first one used by Sargent.   Under the lever cap?

Dot went away after 1909.  Washers on the frog bolts had rusted to the bolts.   Been a long time since those were moved.  Base?

Still, for just $8, I may just sharpen it up, and put it to work....It'll give the Millers Falls No.8 a rest...
