Small slotted brass screws? - Aram - 12-03-2018 Brusso makes these really nice, small, brass hinges. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001CBW7PC/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1 They include Phillips head brass screws. That's dumb. It's the wrong look. I bought #4 slotted brass screws from McMaster, and found that the heads are too large. They ride proud of the hinge and interfere with the box closing. Is there a source of slot-head brass screws with small enough heads to fit into these hinge countersinks? Thanks. Aram, McMaster sells slotted #2 and #3 brass wood screws. https://www.mcmaster.com/brass-screws Chuck Bender RE: Small slotted brass screws? - Timberwolf - 12-03-2018 (12-03-2018, 07:53 PM)Aram Wrote: Brusso makes these really nice, small, brass hinges...... You probably have more screws than needed for the hinges, so I would try chucking a screw in your lathe and filing the"flat" of the head until it seats correctly..Then, take a hacksaw blade and grind the "set" off the teeth....use it to deepen the slot if necessary..The blade {minus the set} should be about the right thickness and, with the "set" removed, it wont destroy the appearance of the screw..You could probably just chuck the screw in an electric drill chuck and achieve the same thing...To hold the screw while deepening the slot, first drive it a little way into a piloted hole in a block of softwood. Another possible "fix" is just to countersink the holes in the hinges a little deeper. This would be my last choice because of the price of the hinges...it's doable but requires a bit of finesse. I don't know why I had it in my head that they were #4 -- they may well be #2 or 3. Thanks! RE: Small slotted brass screws? - Aram - 12-04-2018 ...aaaaand of course, Brusso has a chart. This hinge is P/N JB-101.
