Maybe 1.8mm. At any rate, that's generally a bit big for shellac. I use 1.3mm for 2# cut in a 4-stage HVLP turbine. You could use 1.0mm too, but I usually leave the 1.3mm installed because that works pretty well for most clear finishes I use. They have a general purpose 1.5 tip and shellac flows and shoots fine through them. Shellac is super easy to spray depending on the "cut". My typical routine is to shoot 4-5 thin coats of shellac and after allowing it to fully dry, I rub it out with furniture wax and a synthetic abrasive polishing pad. The HF purple guns have a 1.4 mm needle and are perfect for spraying shellac, dyes, etc. They are an incredible bargain for $10. John RE: Spraying Shellac - petertay15 - 02-20-2019 Yes, the HF sprayers are a bargain! I take mine apart and clean it carefully, but my cabinet builder friend, tosses them after just one use. He’s to busy to spend 20 cleaning it. RE: Spraying Shellac - Willyou - 02-21-2019 I agree with all the above comments. However, to answer more directly, yes an airbrush will spray shellac nicely. I currently have a project going where I'm doing just that with my Badger airbrush. I'm using a 1# cut and the largest tip. I don't know the actual size. I don't know anything about the HF airbrush, but for the price, it might be fun to try. RE: Spraying Shellac - Cooler - 02-25-2019 I am in favor of polishing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hbthj0Mr_JA |
