I plan on finishing these with either shellac or lacquer. Haven't decided yet.

Also gotta figure out if I should use a filler before either.

Padauk is beautiful. This is made from it. It's not as red as it once was although the has retained more of that color. This one was finished with Danish oil back in the summer of 1980 and it still looks great.

Looking forward to seeing your build.

I've used padauk with maple, walnut, and bubinga. Had a little bleed with sanding(220 grit finish), especially with walnut,  so used a scraper instead. That worked well.

No issues with Titebond II, either.

I have just enough lumber to make two of them so I can't afford to mess up! Laid out the parts last night. Next I'll rip and resaw, both on the bandsaw. Then I'll let it rest a day before planing to thickness.

Ripped and resawed the lumber. That one piece by itself? That's all that left. Hope I don't mess up!

I tried building a box for my wife for Christmas, missed the deadline, then screwed it up big time, so I'm starting over.

This piece of lumber is 6' long, 7" wide,  and 6/4.  I'll resaw it to get all the pieces I need out of it--all the pieces to the box are 1/2" thick.

I'll try to post regularly and get it done soon.

Strangely, that board looks like one of your fence boards.
Raised  I can't see one missing behind you though.

Sorry for the thread digression; JohnnyEgo, that's a beautiful use of ambrosia maple.

Planed to .6". Will let air for several days and then finish planing to .5".

No apologies needed for any digressions. I'll bring it back to subject when I update.
