Building a trophy case...how to make a "push pin" board? - Dumb_Polack - 10-06-2019 Building a trophy case for the neighbor's kid. The upper section will be 2 glass "towers" (glass on 3 sides with glass shelves). Between them the kids wants it to be a board where he can use pins to hand/attach things. 2 questions: 1) How would you build this section? It'll need some padding behind the fabric to "grab" the push pins. Should I use cork? How thick should it be? if not cork, what material would you recommend? 2) What's the best fabric to cover it with. Something close-knit I presume the aid in the "grabbing strength" of the pins. Thanks! RE: Building a trophy case...how to make a "push pin" board? - Woodworm! - 10-06-2019 Homasote board covered with fabric. https://www.homedepot.com/p/1-2-in-x-4-ft-x-8-ft-R-1-2-Sound-Board-Sound-Barrier-Sheathing-206136/202090212 I would use a cotton fabric. RE: Building a trophy case...how to make a "push pin" board? - Cooler - 10-07-2019 Cork seems to work better than any other material for this purpose. Grainger carries cork in both sheet form and roll form. https://www.grainger.com/category/raw-materials/cork/cork-sheet-stock?suggestConfigId=2&searchBar=true Grainger is never the most economical source for anything, but they are convenient and it may not pay to do a lot of research on this: https://www.grainger.com/category/raw-materials/cork/cork-sheet-stock?suggestConfigId=2&searchBar=true 12mm (about 1/2") x 24" x 36" costs about $15.00. Pick it up at your local Grainger outlet and save the shipping charges. |
