Reviving this older thread....the Hitachi/Metabo sliding saw is on sale at my local Lowes for $299. Seems to be a decent deal.

Maybe better yet depending on how you feel about reconditioned. If the outfit doing the work knows their business reconditioned might be better than new. These guys have been around for quite a while.
