Recoating with a different product can cause adhesion issues, even with a screening first.  I wouldnt recommend it.  Either use the same product, or sand and refinish with a quality topcoat... Nothing...

2P-10 the hangers to the wall. Use thick, or Gel type.  Apply gel to hanger, spray activator on wall, Push. Hang evergreen.  Drink eggnog.

The cabinet will fall apart before pulling an 8x2 1/2" screw out of the wall studs. 3/4 ply is nice for base cabs, but I still use 1/2" when doing uppers just to keep the weight down.

I would say about 98% of the time, I use thinset.  Mastic does come in handy once in awhile though.  I like it for mosaic backsplashes.  So much easier to hang the sheets and not have to worry about a...

I second the Miracle 511... Its all we use, and all my stone guy will recommend. The Absolute Black granite mentioned earlier really doesnt need to be sealed.  Its so damned hard, nothing penetrat...

Fittings are cheap... Why not replace before you spin it all back together.  Seen a few cracked fittings over the years.  Might be a possible cause of your leak if the original installer went a little...

While it may be true that cement board adds some overall strength to a floor, it's much less than most would think, and you're really not supposed to rely on cement board to bring a floors deflection ...
