I have been using a 375 gram Japanese, barrel shaped hammer, to tap my L-N chisels for many years.
No perceptible damage.
The hammer feels much more positive and so much less clumsy than a malle... |

It's easy to hone a small 45 degree (or steeper) bevel on the front of the L-N chip breaker.

The faults which occur at the c/b front edge, do not generally exhibit themselves until the setting is close to the blade edge. Choking is the usual problem, which occurs well before the ultra close ... |
