Post: RE: Trex decking for cutting board?
Bill, DO NOT use the Trex decking for a cutting board!

Thank you all for the responses, comments and advice. From what I see, most lean towards using a chisel instead of buying the bullnose plane. After thinking about the advice, I tend to agree. I have e... |

While working on a couple of recent projects a bullnose plane would have come in real handy, but I don't have one. So while looking through Lee Valley's offerings, I found that besides a bullnose plan... |

Thank you all for the very nice comments.
Jerry, to answer your question, I use what Jim Tolpin has called a "face planing stop." See the two pictures below. It's like a bench hook in a way, it's h... |

With the last post, I left off with the major bench construction finished and the bench sitting right side up. Now it's time to finish and put it to work.
So what needs to be done? The uneven ends ne... |

Bandit, yes that's on my mind. Just trying to finish the tough parts first before I tackle the easier stuff. I was even thinking of maybe putting in a second shelf, for small, flat things. We'll see. ... |

I guess, finally the time has come to right this beast!

As I mentioned way above, I wanted to put short stretchers as well, i.e. going between legs on the same end of the bench. This was done exactly the same as described above, the half lap dovetail was c... |

arnman,
the assembly/bench as well as the legs, are very stiff, so there are no deflections there. The mortices and tenons do have some play. Due to the size and length of the tenons, I had to trim ... |

The only thing that was left now, was to cut the legs to length. Since the table saw could not cut the full thickness, I finished the cut with a handsaw.
Since this gave me a little shoulder ... |

Thank you.
My understanding is that long grain to long grain glue joints are stronger than the wood. I'm not sure what Adam was thinking about and I hope he chimes in to explain further. |
