KBAC 27D and 29D VFDs
#6
I started running a KBAC 27D VFD on a 10" Baldor grinder and 10" buffer setup I built recently. This KBAC-27D VFD will power up to 1.5hp 220V 3ph motors on 120V in, and will power a 2hp 220V 3ph motor on 220V in. the KBAC-29D will power 3hp 220V 3ph motor on 220V in only (no 120V option on it). These VFDs are completely sealed Nema 4x IP65 rated setups and do not require the enclosures like many cheaper VFDs do that have cooling requirements and fans. They are not cheap though - about $360 for the 27D and $380 for the 29D. Its also a VERY SIMPLE VFD to use. All settings are made with jumpers inside the door - no programming or looking up codes. It comes with one switch for start stop (not AC line off), and the potentiometer. You can wire in AC line on/Off, fwd/stop/reverse, and a start jog switch as options. I wired in fwd/stop/reverse and also the AC line on/off. I used my own cheaper DPST and DPDT switches and not their expensive options. They are just toggle switches. Anyway check out these VFDs if you want simple sealed setups without a lot of hassle.

Thanks Gary my friend. Miss you. Hope you are doing well.

I added a 0-60hz and 0-120hx selector switch last night.pretty sweet. Youwould be nice on a drill press.

Mike, do you prefer these over what Factorymation carries?  If so, why?

Depends on the purpose. For a grinder setup where I did not want to build out a dust proof enclosure that still had adequate cooling, plus i would still have to add momentary start and stop, reversing, ac power, and a remote potentiometer, i prefer this one as the load was under 2hp. It cost about $100 more and i feel its simplicity and quality are easily worth it.

For a cnc machine i definately prefer a wj200 hitachi or nicer teco. I want easy connectivity to modbus rs485.

I dont run any Hunyang or cheap ones so I dont compare these to them.

So if its a tool i want to control directly at a vfd this kbac is the way to go. If remote mounting it i think others are more feature packed and cheaper.

Bandsaw, shaper, drill press, grinders under 3 hp - try this kbac 29d or 27d or 24d depending on hp.

If 1.5hp or less, and want to start and stop and speed control at the vfd, and want to drive on 120v, try this kbac-27d. If under 1hp try a 24d.

You want max torque at above 60hz look elsewhere like wj200 or nicer teco, or fuji or better.

Jointer or planer or other tool with multiple motors not needing variable speed - run a rpc.

Megarich - buy a phasperfect.
