The HDZ replaces the Z axis on a Shapeoko which is arguably the weakest part of the machine. It uses a ball screw. The HDZ was originally developed and sold by "Mr Beaver" in the UK but recently Carbide3D hired him and now sells it directly (and for a little less). Luke (aka Mr Beaver) is now leading product development for Carbide3D. I expect great things.
Next upgrade is removing the router and installing a real water cooled spindle.
