Ridgid Bandsaw - new motor?

I wouldn't worry about replacing the motor until you figure out whether or not a riser is available. If it is honestly 3/4hp, then that seems plenty unless you want to do high-speed re-sawing at 12".

If looking at custom risers, it might be worthwhile to also consider whether there will be BS blades available for the new size or if your blades will have to be custom made from then on.

Thanks for the help. I see a Grizzly riser available on Amazon and 105" blades are plentiful. Also, there are three riser options listed at Grizzly direct.

I'd be very careful to assume a Griz riser will work with this saw, it likely won't.

I have friends who enjoy working on (upgrading) their tools as much as using them...not me.  I don't do a lot of resawing, but half horse motor would have been weak on my last 9" resaw job.  I also change blades for the job at hand and would not want to pay for custom length blades.  Fortunately, I live in a large multi-city area and nearly every large tool I have, came through Craigslist.

Check out the used tool market in your area.

There are lots of answers to this. As someone who once made a cheap riser from a discontinued Grizzly band saw work on a HF saw (I pulled the alignment pins and fiddled with it until it was aligned) and used it to resaw 11" of maple: it's probably not worth it. Resawing 6" wide pieces and gluing them together is faster and easier. But it will work if you really want to do it, as long as your blades are very sharp.

If you plan to do a lot of resawing, it's likely worth getting a steel framed saw.
